The 8 commandments of participating online conversations

Companies that own the talent of communicating with their consumers are going to be the most successful marketers of this age. The consumer wants to feel like he or she is talking to a normal person, a good listener who provides specific answers, someone who asks questions and who really wishes to understand the consumer.

1. Listen
   When a consumer engages in a conversation with you, you should focus on what that person has to say. The first thing to do is to genuinely listen, even if you get negative comments only.
2. Ask questions
   If you ask open questions, the consumer will get the impression you are genuinely interested. Furthermore, it will help you to understand the arguments.
3. Adopt a receptive attitude
   A lot of opportunities come from ideas generated by the market. Be receptive to consumers’ ideas.
4. Be honest
   Do not lie and be honest. If there is a problem with one of your products, make sure to communicate it to your consumers as quickly and as clearly as possible.
5. Be personal
   Do the conversations yourself instead hiring an extern agency.
6. Engage
   Ensure the consumers that their input will be used.
7. Thank you!
   If your consumers promote your brand, do not hesitate to thank them. Consumers like to be noted as brand ambassadors by their favorite brand. Do not only make time for negative consumers, but collaborate with the positive ones as well.
8. Stay positive
   Stay positive during all time. People who talk about your brand (positive or negative) already have their opinion about you. Just deal positive with this matter and you will find out that your conversations become perfect.
